Coder
Graduation from high school or equivalent required. Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS or CCS-P) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is required. Experience in both hospital (facility) and physician office (professional) coding is required. Must possess a strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and reimbursement methodologies. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and the ability to effectively utilize and learn electronic medical record (EMR) systems are required. Must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy, strong organizational and analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to work efficiently while maintaining compliance with applicable coding regulations and organizational policies.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience coding for a multi-specialty medical practice, including family practice, is preferred. Certification or registration as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is highly desirable but not required. Previous leadership, mentoring, quality review, or coding audit experience is preferred. Experience reviewing and resolving coding-related claim denials and collaborating with clinical and revenue cycle staff to support accurate reimbursement is preferred. Knowledge of regulatory requirements, payer guidelines, documentation improvement practices, and coding compliance standards is also desirable. Experience with Cerner EMR is preferred.
